Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa Featured on Channel 2 News: Volunteers Needed for North Tulsa Routes

Tulsa, Okla. — We are excited to share that Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa was recently featured on Channel 2 News in a story by Clifton Haskin, highlighting our urgent need for volunteers to support our North Tulsa routes.

Serving more than 1,200 people with only 20 full-time employees, our organization relies heavily on the dedication and generosity of volunteers to reach those in need. One such individual who has greatly benefited from our services is Miranda Bryant, a client of Meals on Wheels for the past six years.

"Actually, I was living on the streets," said Bryant, reflecting on her life before Meals on Wheels.

Our mission is to expand our reach in North Tulsa to help more individuals like Bryant. The weekly visits from our volunteers are not just meal deliveries; they are moments of connection and compassion that have a profound impact.

"It keeps my spirits up and my soul happy. And it's very expressive and in a good manner," Bryant shared.

North Tulsa is considered a food desert, making our services even more critical. We urgently need volunteers to deliver multiple warm meals a week to ensure our clients receive the nourishment and human interaction they deserve.

Aubrey Wheland, a representative from Meals on Wheels, emphasized the importance of our volunteers.

"Our volunteers are the only people our clients may see or talk to all week. And we get thank you's from our clients all the time, letting us know how much it means to them," said Wheland.

Bryant strongly encourages others to volunteer, highlighting the personal growth and understanding it brings.

"I tremendously encourage you to do it. It gives you more life experience of what people are and how people are and who you're dealing with," said Bryant.
